Haisser 900 industry tile cutter.

An inexpensive, light, decent cutter – a “one job” tool, as people say. Of course, mass production and a low price have their flip side: it is almost impossible to pick out a perfect guide (rail). But if the deviation is more than 0.5 mm, I reject it and send it back to the supplier. The cutter has a rectangular rail with a 10 x 35 mm section, which is enough for cutting most materials, including porcelain stoneware up to 11 mm thick.

The base of the cutter is made of metal, with a rectangular tube inside it as a stiffening rib. Above it sits a metal ridge for snapping the tile. The structure is rigid enough not to bow tile up to 11 mm, and that is a very good result. With some skill you can cut thicker tile too. Soft porous rubber is glued to the rail to hold the tile before the snap. Inside the carriage there are bearings pressed up by rubber rings. That rules out any big play and saves you from adjusting it. The breaker works along the whole length of the rail. Of course it is better to work at the front and the back so as not to break the tile. The breaker can be magnetised to the carriage, and then it does not get in the way of cutting or of seeing where you are cutting. Oddly enough, it uses a cheap but good scoring wheel on a bearing, 22x6x6. A comfortable, medium-sized handle, enough to snap the tile by pressing. The rule with the side stop is traditionally Chinese-made and is nothing special for quality or convenience. Legs – 2 of them, simple but they really do work and hold the tile level while you work.

But in spite of everything said above, I maintain that this cutter is the best answer both for a beginner and for tilers from the regions who have no way of earning big money.
